Medical condition - Male infertility
Brief description - Male infertility is commonly due to deficiencies in the semen, and semen quality is used as a surrogate measure of male fecundity.
Cause - Hypogonadism, Obesity, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, Tobacco smoking, Strenuous riding,medications genetic abnormalities and other causes include Varicosity/Varicocele, Hydrocele, etc.
Prevention - Avoid smoking of tobacco and alcohol abuse
Treatment -
- Hormonal therapy: administration of Luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone is found to be effective
- Treatment of the underlying cause of infertility is also to be considered
Case Primer - A 42-year-old male with Severe Oligospermia (absence of sperms cells), suffering from infertility for 5 years, have undergone hormone therapy and haven’t found any suitable results.
Treatment given - Panchakarma: A course of Virechana was given as part of treatment protocol followed by medicines/herbs specific to increase sperm count.
Results - Sperm count returned to normal within 11 months of treatment.
